Where were you born?
I was born in New Haven CT in the city of hidden goats raised off exit 8 in New Haven
What did you want to be when you were younger?
I originally wanted to be in the NBA but who didn’t, but I do have the crazy jumper still lol that changed though once I entered high school and I saw I had a natural talent for this music after that my life and path changed for the better something crazy.
How did you get interested in music?
It was in high school at lunch time, I would be spittin’ freestyles wit my dawgs and it so happened my Uncle John who does gospel music had his own show gave me some equipment to start recording myself. After a few times of doing a few recordings in his room, once he gave me that equipment though, that was it for me.
Where did the name JUN come from?
The fam used to call me JUN JUN cause I’m a junior but once I got older I dropped one because it sounded more mature but I still wanted to keep my family involved with my name.
How was it growing up in your household?
From birth all the way up to about 9 years old I lived in my grandparents house with my mom in the basement playing GameCube Mario Cart all day, a loving family but no true father figure in my life besides my grandfather. My pops was locked up but then my Step-Dad who I call Dad came into my life with his son, who I call my brother it all changed for the better. Of course there was ups and downs but that’s regular family stuff.
How did growing up in New Haven affect you? (personally, musically, etc)
Growing up in New Haven just showed me that I’m part of a city full of hidden G.O.A.T.S. with nobody that has the ‘it’ factor that could help put our city on or the people that did, didn’t do enough for the rest because people was left behind, we have a culture here from the streets of New Haven to Yale, to having the best pizza in the country, I embraced all of it not just some. All of that made me who I am.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since sophomore year and pursuing it as a career seriously for about two years now.
What did you do before music?
Honestly I just went to school, played basketball and did what regular high school kids do outside the fact when I went home I recorded songs in my room. I would mix ‘em too, I definitely did horrible mixes too I had very little guidance with that though, feel me.
Who are your biggest influences?
Drake and Tory Lanez are amazing artists to me and I love what they stand for and the diversity in their music. I want my music to be diverse too and they showed me that I could do everything even genre wise and I think that’s what makes an artist
What have you been working on?
I’ve been working on this double EP that I’m finna drop very soon called “Money & Diamonds”. ‘Money’ is me really talking my fly shit, but ‘Diamonds’ on the other hand is more me talking to the ladies sweet and with a collection of mix feelings in there too. And I have a few features in the works as well.
How was working on your first 5 songs with CMG?
Definitely not the labels fault but the first two were trash due to the fact of me being an artist in development but the third one which is out, was fire that song is on my first project “One, Two” from there I feel like I only created gold.
Looking back on your musical journey so far, what are some of the best lessons you’ve learned?
I learned how to perform better that’s number one and I learned how to work with people I’m part of the team so that affects the way I move as a person because majority of the time I’m not just thinking about me
Where do you see yourself in a year?
I see myself winning awards, making money and feeding my family what else? If I’m not doing that in a year I need to reevaluate what I’m here for and what I’m doing.
What’s going on right now?
Right now I’m trying to get to the next level, period. I’m on focus mode, this music gotta work.
What are your future goals?
I need the most Grammys. I’m at everybody’s neck and nobody is shutting down my goal it’s already in action all I need is the attention and ears of the people I’m going to be the greatest artist. I don’t look up to other artists to stay under I look up to see what it takes to get on top.
